Studio 1
The main studio at Air-Edel combines one of the largest live rooms in central London, and a fantastic sounding control room with surround sound monitoring and sync to picture. Studio 1 houses the last ever studio Cadac console (72 channel) built, which has been lovingly maintained since its installation. The studio runs Pro Tools, on a 2008 Mac Pro Rig.
The studio is used for recording, mixing, sync to picture facilities and boasts 5.1 surround sound. It is also a larger writing room and can be used for showcases. The live room can be used for all kinds of recording sessions, and can comfortably accommodate chamber orchestras of up to twenty-five musicians, as well as being perfectly suited for a large rock band. Live and dead halves of the room mean we can always find the right amount of ambience for a recording, and our custom made baffles make the room incredibly flexible, by allowing for the sectioning off of different parts of the room to ensure maximum separation between instruments. The live room also boasts a Steinway B Grand Piano, which is considered by many to be the finest in the city, and is expertly tuned before every session.
The live room, can also be used as a brilliant drama studio. Jarvis and Ayers recorded the critically acclaimed “Dr No” by Ian Fleming, for the BBC. The control room is routinely praised for its accurate and reliable monitoring, with a Dynaudio system installed by Munro Acoustics, who also designed the acoustic treatment for the whole studios. Our outboard rack houses many effects units and compressors, both vintage and new.
Crucially, the control room is spacious and comfortable – an essential specification for long and potentially stressful sessions. Of course, if it all gets to be too much in the control room, a more relaxed client lounge is right next door, where you can watch TV, surf the internet or even listen to some different music!
