Air-Edel Studio 1 offers a large tracking room in the heart of London for bands who need the perfect central location, flexibility and an excellent sound.
We’re based just off Baker Street in central London, with excellent transport links to the rest of the city, a five-minute walk away from Oxford Street, and the local area of Marylebone has no shortage of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops.
The room is split into live and dead areas, with floor to ceiling baffles further tailoring the sound of the room to your needs, creating windowed booths to maintain visual communication between players and controlling separation between instruments. It’s no problem for big, lively drums, small, dead acoustic guitar and tight, punchy vocals to be tracked together whilst maintaining a high degree of control over spill.
The studio really comes into its own when handling the demanding overdubs that more ambitious projects require. Our live room can easily accommodate the 20 plus string, brass, woodwind and choir sections that most other central London studios can’t, and the Steinway B Grand Piano is considered one of the finest in London.
An impressive microphone collection built up over the past 40 years includes three valve Neumann U47s, an original valve AKG C12, and handfuls of Neumann U87s, KM84s, Coles 4038s, Shure SM57s, many other industry standards and a few interesting surprises to try out.
The control room is centred around the last Cadac studio console ever built, recording to either Pro Tools HD3 or an Otari MTR-100 24 track tape recorder. Monitoring is handled by Dynaudio M2s with a selection of nearfields including the classic Yamaha NS10s. This is all complimented by a large selection of outboard, high end plug-ins and three EMT plate reverbs.
For smaller line-ups and soloists, Studio 2 is the perfect place for vocals, single instrument overdubs, programming and editing. The setup has been made as straightforward as possible for new clients to arrive and begin working immediately, free of any technical surprises or complicated idiosyncrasies. Any microphone from the fantastic Air-Edel collection coupled with one of our Focusrite channel strips, recording to Pro Tools HD make for an incredibly high quality signal chain. Both the control room and live room are spacious and have plenty of daylight, so even the longest session remains comfortable.
