Radio & Spoken Word
Radio Drama
Air-Edel Studio 1 is the perfect studio for large ensemble radio dramas, which we regularly record with independent production companies commissioned by BBC Radio 4.
Being based just off Baker Street, we have fantastic transport links to the rest of the city, close to six Underground lines and plenty of bus routes. Crucially, we’re close to the West End by tube, bus or taxi which makes us perfect for actors and actresses with evening commitments to theatre productions.
Our live room is spacious and can comfortably fit large casts, with live and dead areas and numerous floor to ceiling baffles for creating the right acoustic to match your scene. Our vast microphone collection is full of industry standards such as Neumann U87s and MK84s, as well as plenty of valve, ribbon and dynamic microphones.
The control room boasts excellent monitoring and a large format analogue console which is a joy for engineers who prefer to work with genuine signal paths rather than in the computer or on a confusing digital desk. There’s plenty of space at the back of the room for producers and writers to spread out scripts and take notes.
We also have a large green room for cast members to relax in between calls, or for everyone to sit around the table and eat lunch together.
Spoken word
For single voice spoken word, or small groups, Air-Edel Studio 2 is a well known and respected studio, regularly used for audio books, radio plays, language course CDs and corporate promotional material. Recent clients include Jarvis & Ayres, Footstep Productions, Sweet Talk, RBA Productions, CSA Word and Pearson Education. Acoustically neutral and matching BBC specifications, the studio comfortably fits four around a table or six to eight standing.
The studio was completely refurbished in 2008, removing anything unnecessary or confusing, and is now as straightforward as possible for new engineers. The new set up is centred around a Toft Audio Designs ATB16 console, complimented by two Focusrite MK430 mkII channel strips, recording to either Pro Tools HD or Sadie. New furniture and fabric by Munro Acoustics make it a comfortable, modern looking space, and large windows fill the rooms with daylight ensuring that even the longest sessions remain pleasant.
